Shelters for Migrating Species is a series of public transit shelters currently under construction at Hazelwood Green, Pittsburgh’s largest riverfront redevelopment site.
As Project Manager, I led the process from concept to implementation—crafting the winning proposal, assembling a multidisciplinary team of artists, architects, and fabricators, and guiding the project through community engagement, city permitting, and production coordination.
The shelters are designed to honor human and ecological migration stories, celebrating the site’s layered histories through artistic interventions, environmental storytelling, and place-based infrastructure.
Community input shaped both the physical design and the digital engagement layer, which includes an interactive storymap and on-site activities with transit riders and local businesses.
The project has been recognized by the Pittsburgh Regional Transit Authority, City Arts Commission, and local neighborhood organizations as an inclusive, creative expression of community values.
